AASC 5: 6 Days Lakes/ Mara
Day 1, Lake Baringo
From Nairobi we pause to view the spectacular Rift Valley from the
top of an escarpment, dotted with its string of lakes, that is a
great introduction to the natural beauty of the region. Camp next
to freshwater Lake Baringo where there is the option of taking a
boat trip to search for hippo and crocodile and view the abundant
birdlife around the lake shore.
 |
Day 2, Lake Bogoria
From Baringo it's a short drive to Lake Bogoria, a shallow soda
lake set amidst beautiful scenery. Like the other Kenyan soda lakes,
it has no outlet and the intense evaporation leads to high levels
of salt and minerals, which flamingos love and from a distance the
surface of the water appears bright pink. Next to the lake are steaming
hot springs and geysers, but don't be tempted to put your hands
into the water if you are at all fond of your skin! Continue south
to Lake Nakuru National Park, another shallow soda lake famous for
its birdlife, and the park is also home to lion, many rhino and
if you're very lucky you may spot a leopard in an Acacia tree. Overnight
at a campsite

–game is viewed as we proceed to the campsite for dinner and

soon see why the Mara has such an excellent reputation for diverse
scenery and abundant wildlife. The park has the largest population
of well-fed lion in Kenya, and some of the biggest crocs in Africa
are found in the Mara River - all thanks to the constant supply
of ready-made meals in the way of hundreds of thousands of grazing
animals.

ADVENTURES - 7 DAYS - AASC7
Day 1, Nairobi
You have a full day in Kenya's vibrant capital, Nairobi, and the
day is yours to explore. There are numerous day tours that can be
arranged and the staff at the hotel are more than willing to advise.
Day 2 - 3, Amboseli National
Park
Leaving the urban jungle behind we head south towards Amboseli National
Park, probably most famous for its photographs of elephant with
snow-capped Kilimanjaro in the background - a picture that above
all says, 'come to Africa'. Spend two nights camping in the park
where there is wonderful game viewing and stunning landscapes. This
is one of the best places in Africa to watch elephant, reputedly
with the biggest tusks in Africa, cats include lion, leopard and
cheetah, and there's an abundance of plains game meandering on the
grassy plains.
 |
Day 4, Lake Nakuru
Drive through the Great Rift Valley with its scenic views of escarpments
and valleys dotted with lakes, to beautiful Lake Nakuru National
Park. Its algae-soaked waters attract thousands of pink flamingos
and pelicans, and the park is an important sanctuary for black and
white rhino and leopard. There are also several prides of lion,
black and white colobus monkeys, hippo, numerous antelope, buffalo
and the rare Rothschild's giraffe. Game viewing is easy and rewarding,
and the whole park can be driven around in half a day.
Day 5 - 6, Lake Nakuru, Masai
Mara
From Lake Nakuru we arrive at Kenya's most famous national park,
the Masai Mara, exploring what is most people's picture of 'quintessential
Africa'. Most of 'Out of Africa' was filmed here, so you may already
know what it looks like - rolling savannah, Acacia trees and large
stocks of wildlife waiting to be photographed or just stared at
in awe.
Day 7, Nairobi
After many memorable game viewing experiences, head from the Mara
back to Nairobi where the tour ends.
7 DAYS SAMBURU/LAKES/MARA CAMPING
SAFARI - AASC 8
Day 1, Samburu Game Reserve
From Nairobi, pass the majestic Mt. Kenya en route to the open savannah
of Samburu Game Reserve. We camp in the narrow stretch of palms
and woodland by the Ewaso Nyiro River which provides water for the
animals and some relief from the equatorial sun.
Day 2, Samburu Game Reserve
Enjoy a full day of game viewing along the river banks and surrounding
scrublands with time out from the midday sun for a refreshing swim
at Buffalo Springs. This is a particularly good place to spot elephant
and antelope.
Day 3, Lake Baringo, Great
Rift Valley
Leaving Samburu, cross the Lerochi Plateau and descend to the floor
of the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Baringo by early afternoon.
This fresh water lake supports an abundance of birdlife alongside
hippos and crocodiles that languish on the lake shore.
Day 4, Lake Bogoria, Lake
Nakuru
At the nearby Lake Bogoria visit an area of bubbling hot springs
and steaming geysers, and admire the pink swathes of flamingos on
the soda lake. Then at Lake Nakuru National Park enjoy an afternoon
game drive, where we literally trip over the many rhino in the park,
and if lucky might see a pride of lion languishing in the shade,
or leopard in the Acacia trees.
Day 5 - 6, Masai Mara
Travel south through the beautiful savannahs and plains of the Rift
Valley and reach our base camp site on the Talek River, where we
enjoy another evening out bush under the far-reaching African sky.
Spend the next day on game drives exploring the Masai Mara. The
open grasslands are home to incredibly rich and varied wildlife
and the awesome, annual migration of millions of wildebeest and
antelope is the highlight of any visit to Africa from July to September.
Day 7, Masai Mara, Nairobi
Heading north to Narok, we stop to browse in the bustling, vibrant
Masai markets to buy curios and handicrafts before continuing to
Nairobi where our safari ends.
