Kilimanjaro Safaris, Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing

MARANGU ROUTE.

Day 1 Nairobi-Moshi.
Depart Nairobi at 0800 AM for Namanga border, clearing the immigration formalities before proceeding to Arusha for lunch. Afternoon is spent organizing climbing gear. Dinner and overnight in Arusha.

Day 2 Arusha-Mandara Hut
After breakfast drive to Marangu gate , an altitude of 1860 ms .Walk 9kms to Mandara hut 2744m.(9,000ft) through dense dense semi-tropical forest-for your first overnight on Kilimanjaro. Meals and overnight at the hut.

Day 3 Mandara-Horombo Hut
Start early morning for a ten hour walk towards Horombo. The landscape becomes rigged and rocky but superb ,with both mawenzi and kibo peaks in view .you spend your second  night at the mountain at Horombo hut .an altitude of 3,761m [12.335ft]

Day 4 Horombo –Kibo Hut
Take a tiring 13km walk which takes 6hrs  to Kibo hut 4.732m [15.520ft]above sea level .spectacular mountain vegetation like giant cactus , groundswell and lobelia appear. Meals and overnight at the hut.

Day 5 Kibo –Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
The final attempt to the summit is made in the early hours of the morning at 2.oo a.m . It take about 5hrs to climb the steepest and most difficult part of the route to Gilman’s point [5681M] 18630FT. From Gilman’s, it takes 1.5 to2 hours to Uhuru peak 5,896m (19.344ft).Descend to Horombo  for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Horombo – Moshi
Descend is rapid .After breakfast ,walk down to Marangu gate for transfer to Arusha. Overnight at Arusha Hotel.

Day 7 Arusha - Nairobi
After breakfast , drive to Arusha for lunch ,then to Nairobi via Namanga border town ,arriving  early in the evening.

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing, Umbwe Route from Nairobi

Day 1 Nairobi Moshi
Arrive from Nairobi. Dinner and overnight at Arusha or Moshi hotel.

Day 2 Moshi –Barranco Hut
Breakfast. Drive to Umbwe gate via Umbwe Mission, 1400m above sea level. Ascend to Borranco Hut with picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Hut.

Day 3 Barranco Hut
Breakfast. Acclimatization day. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Barranco Hut (3950m above sea level).

Day 4 Baranco -Barrafu Hut
Breakfast. Take picnic lunch and ascend to Barrafu Hut (4600m above sea level). Dinner and overnight at Barrafu Hut.

Day 5 Barrafu – Uhuru-Mweka Hut
Pre-breakfast. Very early in the morning, proceed to the summit - Uhuru peak (5896m above sea level). Descend to Mweka Hut. Decide, with your guide, a suitable spot for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Mweka Hut.

Day 6 Mweka-Moshi
Breakfast. With picnic lunch, descend to Mweka gate where your driver will drive you to Arusha or Moshi hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 Moshi -Nairobi
After breakfast depart for Nairobi arriving in time for late lunch.
